Residues of products that remain inside packages are a problem not only from the economical point of view but also from an environmental perspective. As possible solution, plasma surface treatment may be used to obtain anti-adhesive nanoscale layers on packaging media. In the presented work, plasma CVD processes were used to coat the surface of different packaging films. Emptying properties were analysed in correlation with surface energies of the coated surfaces. For both types of model products, i.e. hydrophilic thickener solutions and hydrophobic plant oils, the best emptying results were observed on hydrophobic surfaces with a low total surface energy. Coatings made from different precursors lead to different amounts of residues, despite the fact that their surface energies were similar. Silicone-like coatings showed the best emptying performance. Compared to the untreated reference, a significant decrease in residues of up to 90 percent was found.
