The effect of silver is today rediscovered, after it lost its meaning 50 years before by the broad introduction of antibiotics. Silver nanostructures deposited as small islands of nanometer thickness on a non-woven can lead to significant improved smell properties. The fact that a moderate concentration of approx. 300 ppm silver is sufficient to strongly reduce the number of germs is due to the genuine advantage of the nanotechnology. Since metallic silver-nanostructures exhibit a high surface-to-volume-ratio, the microbiological activity is significantly higher than for macroscopic, respective mu-structures or for fully coated fibres.
