Friction and Wear Behaviour of BN Coatings Deposited on Various Steel Substrates Sliding against Steel

摘要

Boron nitride coatings have been deposited onto various steel substrates using pulsed laser deposition technique with ArF excimer laser. In order to improve adhesion and reduce internal stresses, substrates were subjected to gas nitriding. To provide deposited particles with higher energy and to increase gas ionization in the experimental chamber RF discharge generator was used. Structure and morphology of coatings were investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and FTIR spectroscopy. Nanohardness and elastic modulus were measured by Nanoanalyzer (CETR). To investigate adhesion of coatings, scratch tests with increasing load were carried out, the critical loads were determined on the basis of microscopic observations, friction force and acoustic emission runs. The tribological properties of BN coatings sliding against AISI-52100 steel ball were investigated on UNMT set (CETR). On the basis of obtained results it was assumed that stable, crystalline, multiphase coatings were obtained. It was proved that mechanical, adhesive and tribological properties strongly depend on the type of the substrate.
