Maintenance-Free Plain Bearings with Reciprocating Shaft Motion

In order to dimension maintenance-free plain bearings, mostly pv-diagrams are used currently. These diagrams show the behaviour of the bearings for specific installation and heat emission conditions that do not generally occur in practice or cannot be kept. For a better dimensioning and calculation, an iterative procedure will be introduced here, based on empirically determined similarity relationships with relevant parameters. The calculation takes into account material parameters dependant on temperature, changing contact geometry, and heat transmission conditions. The procedure introduced here makes the calculation of friction, bearing temperature, and lifetime of plain bearings possible.
