The pesticides and fertilizers are essential for agriculture but their intensive use results in environmental pollution. Soils, surface and ground waters containing various humic substances (HS) are endangered by these chemicals. For this reason it is very important to study how the different components of the environmental system influence the fate of these pollutants. Acetochlor is an example of the chloro acetanilide type herbicides. This active ingredient is produced and used in Hungary. The adsorption of this compound on Hungarian soils in sodium and calcium ion containing solutions has been studied already (1,2). Other metal ions like potassium (macro element) and copper (micro element) are components of fertilizers, too.
