Minerales Monclova, S.A. (MIMOSA) is owned by GRUPO ACERERO DEL NORTE ( GAN ). The company has 3 underground coal mines and one open pit to provide the coal requirements of it's blast furnace facilities located in the city of Monclova in the North of México in the state of Coahuila. The current underground mines are Mine 5, 6 and 7 and the future projects are Mines 11 and 12. In the last years the Mines 2, 3 and 4 have finished their coal resources. The Mine 6 is also almost at the end of it's life. In that way Mine 5 and 7 have bigger production and developments requirements in order to accomplish the goals of the company. These two mines are working in deep and gassy areas, the current operation depth is 350 meters and the in-situ methane concentration is 15 m3/ton. These conditions have required improvements in the ventilation and methane drainage systems of both mines. At the beginning of 2011 the sinking of two vertical shafts was ready and two new main fans were installed as part of the projections. This paper will explain the evolution and results of the ventilation system and coal production equipment upgrade in MIMOSA'S Mine 7 before and after a new 6 meters diameter vertical shaft and the installation of two new big main fans with 3.35 meters diameter and 1500 kW (2,000 horsepower.)
