Motor Current Signature Analysis (MCSA) is a condition monitoring technique used to diagnose problems in 3 - phase induction motors that drive pumps and compressors in the North Sea oil and gas industry. This paper presents industrial case histories on the application of MCSA to detect problems before failure therefore preventing catastrophic failures, unscheduled downtime, expensive maintenance costs and lost income. These MCSA case histories include the detection of broken rotor bars, high airgap eccentricity and advanced pump wear in an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP).
