Suppression of oxidation and improvement of high temperature strength are the main criterion of adding metallic in magnesia carbon refractories. Although literatures contain different investigations with additives in magnesia carbon, some results are contradictory and some critical properties are not properly evaluated. This study has been conducted for optimization of the use of metallic in magnesia carbon to prolong life in metallurgical vessels. Aluminium (Al), Al and Silicon (Si), Magnesium alloy(Mg-Si) and Aluminium alloy(Al-Si) were added in MgO-C and different properties were evaluated. It was observed that Al+Si content samples had the best oxidation resistance and high temperature strength where Mg alloy content samples had the maximum slag corrosion resistance and hydration resistance properties.
