Renewable Energy Project of the State of Guanajuato: An example of local promotion of renewable energy in a country like Mexico, which begins to exploit these resources

Created on 1996, the Council of Science and Technology of the State of Guanajuato, México (CONCyTEG) is the institution in charge of promoting and supporting activities of research and technological innovation throughout the state, including support and implementation of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. In 2002, the Technical Energy Committee, was integrated to foment energy diversification and energy efficiency in the state. Up to 2005, important projects related to the field of renewable energy and energy efficiency, along with co-funding from the Federal Government and private investors, were supported by the state. Some of the remarkable activities that the Technical Energy Committee has accomplished are as follows: To create a group of experts in topics related to research and application of renewable energy, and to elaborate a Law Project to foment Renewable Energy Resources for the State and Counties of Guanajuato. The Law Project may be the model for the Community and State organization in using renewable energies in Mexico. The experience of the Technical Energy Committee of the State of Guanajuato presented in this work may serve as a reference to those countries beginning to exploit and use their renewable energy resources.
