The paper deals with the dynamic response of thin-walled isotropic columns subjected to pulse compression. The columns consist of four rectangular thin plates. The problem is investigated on the basis of finite element method using the computer code ANSYS 8.1. The influence of the shape of pulse loading, imperfection sensitivity, time of pulse duration and geometrical parameters on the dynamic behaviour of columns is analysed. The dynamic buckling load is estimated on the basis of Budiansky-Hutchinson dynamic stability criterion.
