The recent progress in the research and development of perpendicular magnetic HDD is briefly introduced, and then the features of perpendicular magnetic recording recently found or confirmed in read/write performances are discussed. The potential of tera-bit perpendicular magnetic recording and the issues for that are also discussed theoretically and experimentally. Finally, as the application in the next generation, the possibility of ubiquitous storage system is briefly explained.
