Gas Assisted Mechanical Expression (GAME): Influence Of Process Parameters On Oil Yield And Economic Implications

In this work the oil yield obtained via Gas Assisted Mechanical Expression (GAME) of sesame, linseed and rapeseed is compared experimentally to conventional mechanical pressing. In the GAME process CO{sub}2 is dissolved in the oilseed before pressing, thereby displacing part of the oil from the press cake during pressing. It was shown that GAME increases the yield for all seeds. A preliminary economic evaluation showed that the process is economically more attractive than conventional hydraulic pressing, especially if lower residual oil contents in the cake are desired.
