In this paper, a complex mechanism system could be divided into several unattached modules according to the characteristics of movement and framework. Of course, every module's influence on objective function should be considered. We can choose one or several characteristic parameter(s) from every module to serve as design variable(s), certainly, the parameter(s) must represent the characteristic of the module. This kind of treatment solves the coupling between the modules successfully. After first optimization design, the characteristic parameters can be further optimized within their own module. Then we process the second optimization design to every module. At this time, the objective function is changed to characteristic parameters, which should equal to the optimized characteristic parameter in the first optimization as close as possible. Lastly, the optimization design strategy is used to solve overall optimization design of pumping unit. The example shows that the optimization design strategy is different from other classification optimization design and efficient.
