A hybrid method for identifying limit induced bifurcation and saddle node bifurcation points in two stages is proposed, which is based on continuation power flow (CPF) method and point of collapse (PoC) method. This method combines advantages of CPF method and PoC method, and can consider power limits of all the generators, especially the power limit of the slack one. At the first stage, by using a conventional CPF method, it can go through the collapse point quickly by a large step. At the second stage, different methods can be used to identify and compute the collapse point accurately through analysis and comparison. The effectiveness of analyzing the steady-state voltage collapse point and considering the power limit of the slack generator in the CPF computation is demonstrated through numerical results in IEEE 30-bus and 118-bus test systems.
