To simulate the simultaneously charging of coal (coke) and DRI (ore) in the Melter Gasifier of COREX-3000 with descending of char bed, a laboratory experiment model was established. The effect of distribution pattern and material type on the burden pile shape, ore-to-coal ratio, voidage and particle size segregation along the radial direction were investigated. The experimental results show that the burden pile shape presents a steamed bun shaped. The charging angle range of ore and coal and the particle size of material have significant impact on the distribution of ore (pellet, sinter) to coal (coke) ratio along radial direction. The burden pile voidage at center and edge region is larger than that in middle region. Under the distribution pattern that the falling location range of ore is the same of coal (coke), the particle size segregation of materials on radius direction was smaller.
