EXPLORING MULTI-AGENT AUTONOMIC ARCHITECTURES FOR TELEHEALTH SYSTEMS

The ever-increasing complexity of development, integration, deployment, and management of information systems for mission-critical applications such as telehealth are overwhelming for software developers and system administrators. This has motivated development of the new paradigm of autonomic computing, which does not rely on human intervention and administration to manage the complexity. Autonomic computing has been inspired by the human body's autonomic nervous system. Autonomic computing systems are envisioned to be self-aware and able to self-manage, as the human body's self-regulatory nervous system. In a research project, co-sponsored by IBM and HP, we have explored multi-agent approach for building autonomic architectures for mission-critical applications, and developed multi-agent autonomic architecture for telehealth systems. Multi-agent approach has emerged as the most viable approach for development of autonomic architectures. In this paper, we present a multi-agent approach for the design of autonomic architectures for telehealth systems. We also discuss our latest research results and plans for further enhancement of this research.
