A CASE OF PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH FOR COMMUNITY TELEHEALTH DEVELOPMENT

Over the last few years, policy makers, healthcare professionals, and First Nation communities recognized that the disparity between provision of healthcare services and healthcare needs in First Nation communities could be met through telehealth. However, very little research has been completed with First Nation communities on how telehealth could be adopted in their communities. This paper arose from a sub-research project in E-USER Can: A Community Approach to Advancing Rural and First Nations Population Health Through the Context of Telehealth. The sub-research project involved one northern First Nation community (NFNC) in Alberta with the objective of understanding the social context of future telehealth implementation using participatory action research (PAR).
