We present a seismic method whereby data acquired using irregular geophone arrays are regularized. We employ a Newton method to implement regularization, and we find the computational cost to be considerable in regard to computation of the inverse Hessian. As a remedy, we develop a series approximation for the inverse Hessian that improves significantly the computational effort required for regularization. As an example, we truncate the series so that an equivalent, 15 degree operator is achieved. We find that this operator is quite compact and that better, higher order operators will have similar compactness.
