Structure and structural relaxation of 1,2-dichloroethane samples prepared by vacuum deposition were studied by Raman scattering. It was found that gauche and trans molecules coexisted in amorphous states immediately after the deposition and that the structural relaxation by temperature elevation occurred before crystallization. The mole fraction of gauche isomer increases in the relaxation process, and molecular circumstances of gauche molecules changes toward that in liquid state. Characteristics of the structure and relaxation of amorphous 1,2-dichloroethane are discussed.
