In this paper a calculation model to increase local consumption of PV output by means of electric storage is introduced. Three characteristic indices are developed to identify benefits by storage. An exemplary calculation for a commercial building is carried out to give exemplary results and to discuss sizing issues for the storage. It is deduced that with little requirements for the storage (nominal power and capacity) an important increase of the local consumption of PV output is possible. Further, a local use of all PV energy requires significant storage power and capacity. As proven for the exemplary building 100% demand coverage through PV requires capacity of at least a sixth of the annual electric demand for the example building.
