Tele-operated Robotic Systems for Nuclear Power Plants in South Korea and Lessons Learned

Two types of nuclear power plants have been constructed and operated in South Korea. The major operating plants are PWRs and the others are PHWRs. To reduce high-radiation exposure of human workers, several numbers of tele-operated robotic systems have been developed in South Korea and some of them carried out inspection tasks and remote handling works in the fields successfully. This paper introduces the tele-operated robotic systems for inspection and manipulation of nuclear power plants in South Korea and discusses about lessons learned.
