In this study open path optical measurement systems have been used together with conventional measurement equipment to find potential leakages of a biogas production plant. For the open path optical measurements two op-FTIR systems and a tunable diode laser (TDL) system have been used. The conventional system used in this study was a FID/PID waste gas monitor. Methane, produced by the biogas production process, was the key compound used for the leakage measurements. The results of the measurements showed, that an exhaust valve was the main emission source for the methane emissions and that the fermenter tanks of the plant and the substrate silos were not the main emission sources.
