Research classics are recognized important works in a field. Citing authors' comments along with the classics were analyzed along with citation counts to identify the use contexts. In-depth citation analysis of 11 highly cited classics show unusual longevity as highly cited works, strong associations with high co-citations, a number of image-makers contributing extremely high recitations, and diversity of citing journals. The nature of the classics was also investigated to shed lights on the success of the classics, reasons for low rate of citations to certain classics.
