CHARACTERISTIC LITHOFACIAL ZONES OF THE MAIN DOLOMITE FORMATIONS IN WESTERN POLAND IN THE CONTEXT OF EXISTING HYDROCARBONS FIELDS

Employing new technology used in seismic research, especially data processing, brought about not only a considerable improvement in the quality of seismic record, but also largely increased the amount of data available. This allows to follow closely the existence of, sometimes, very thin geological layers and defining their physical parameters as well. This is crucial since in hydrocarbon search in the Main Dolomite the interpreted structural elements do not always mean the best reservoir qualities and therefore hydrocarbon accumulation. This presentation summarises the results of analytical research on the basis of which big fields of oil and gas have been found recently in the Main Dolomite in north-west Poland. The main geological and sedimental factors are analysed together with high prospectivity of the area in question Author's geological ideas thanks to which the discovery of other big hydrocarbon fields in the Main Dolomite in the Polish part of Zechstein Basin can be expected are also presented here.
