It has been known for some years that the burning of gun propeliants excites gas dynamic osciliations in the hole channels of the propellant grains. Their frequency is dependent on the length of the channels. These hole channel oscillations can, under certain circumstances, modify and intensify the burning in the hole channels. This phenomenon is demonstrated by means of several double- and triple-base propeliants and a propellant containing DNDA in the formulation. The hole channel oscillations may have different frequency modes and may influence the channel burning up to the sliver point. Different oscillation modes can coexist within one propellant grain up to the end of burning of the holes. This is evidenced by different propellant grains where the burning was interrupted.
