POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY AS ANTICORRUPTION TOOLS AND THEIR EFFECTS ON FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY

Corruption can be seen as a negative aspect on the advancement of a country in its way to globalization. Corruption is usually associated with government and public sector practices; that is why corruption is usually part of the equation that measures globalization or internationalization. Some empirical studies have shown that corruption affects FDI and other global economic measures. Political engagement by governments has also been seen as a collaborator for the attraction of FDI as well as an element that helps reduce corruption. Controlling corruption and improper practices at a country level can be a hard task, but new available technology (software, hardware, and communication tools) can help to at least control some of these problems. This work intends to empirically test that information technology (IT) along with political engagement can help to improve corruption problems at a country level, which in turn will help a country attract FDI.
