So you've finally concluded that the organization needs to go wireless - or else. You've analyzed all the available information, researched all the literature, evaluated the products available, found the perfect pilot project, and now all you have to do is get approval from the money people. Why is that so difficult? Why can't they see the obvious? If only everyone in the organization could be as smart, insightful, adventurous, and handsome as you. The sale of a wireless project inside your own organization is not all that different than selling on the outside - sometimes it's harder. You have to overcome most of the same obstacles as an outside salesman plus the one about the "prophet in his own land" never being recognized. Another cliche that applies is "an expert is an outsider with a briefcase". What I hope to do in this article is give you some ideas on how to make the sale easier. Ideas that can make the decision process simpler for you and your supervision, supply clearer insight for the various levels of supervision that must agree, and help you focus your efforts on those that are most likely to provide the outcome that you see so clearly. I will list some do's and don'ts as well as provide some specific pilot project examples and how they might be sold. Remember, no idea is so good that it sells itself; but wireless is close.
