Selfpropagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) is very effective method for obtaining numerous materials, including MAX phases such as Ti2AlN, Ti3AlC2, Ti2AlC or Ti3SiC2. These compounds combine features of both ceramic and metallic materials which lead to many interesting potential application. In present work SHS synthesis of Ti2AlN material is presented. Due to the fact that use of elementary powder for SHS synthesis of MAX phases seems to be ineffective, various compounds of titanium and aluminium such as TiAl, Ti3Al, TiN and A1N were used as precursors for synthesis of ternary material. After the synthesis phase composition of obtained materials was examined by XRD method.
