Producing a protective layer for protecting a titanium-based material product (preferably a strap, sheet, predeformed or complex components) against surface oxidation, comprises segmentally applying a suspension on at least one of the surfaces of the product, where the suspension contains an organosilicon compound or its condensation product, and dispersed aluminum particles; and exposing the product coated with the suspension at greater than 600[deg] C, so that a strong adhesive silicon- and aluminum containing protective layer is formed on the product.
