Mist Elimination is a critically important topic but often overlooked component for liquid/gas separation. Typically, the critical nature of this topic is discovered when there is a serious operational problem such as a failed emissions test due to carryover, or impaired system operation due to excessive pressure drop. This paper will focus on the key areas of avoiding mist eliminator performance issues and highlight the concept of controlling the wet/dry interface-the fundamental task of mist eliminators. Included in this paper will be case studies of wet scrubbers, emerging strategies for aerosol removal using mist eliminator media, and methods that can be used to avoid problems and strategies for alleviating performance issues.
