The fuel filtration market has adopted a range of filter media, depending on the performance required and certain geographical influences. As a result we find various media designs, incorporating cellulose, meltblown, microfiberglass, and numerous composites. This paper will compare the relative performance of the various design options in terms of efficiency, permeability, and specific dust holding capacity. The types of media will include: 100 % cellulose, single side saturated cellulose, single phase microfiberglass cellulose blends, dual phase microfiberglass, 2-layer glass/cellulose composites and 2-layer/multi-layer meltblown/cellulose composites. All these types above will be divided into the four classifications as follows: Cellulose, Cellulose-Polyester blends, cellulose-microfiberglass blends, and meltblown composites.
