A generic LDAP interface for a telecommunication CORBA application

Large scaled enterprise CORBA applications tend to have complex interfaces represented by the interface definition language (IDL). In order to co-operate, other applications need to implement all the CORBA functionality even if there is no need to distribute them and only a small subset of the applications' data is required for co-operation. Therefore, a simple interface with a standard protocol would provide a better solution in many cases. Our approach suggests a generic LDAP to CORBA gateway, because LDAP is a simple standard protocol already integrated in many common tools, e.g. email clients. Based on requirements of a real-life application in the telecommunication domain we show the feasibility of our approach. This approach is general for all CORBA applications. As a main advantage we show the fast and easy integration of small external pieces of software into large scale distributed applications e.g. legacy systems.
