In an effort to understand the biological processes of cadmium (Cd) accumulation, Cd uptake, translocation and molecular distribution are characterized in two wheat genotypes differing in shoot/root Cd partitioning in this paper. It was found that Cdcontent in shoots of Yan86103 was much lower than that of Laizhou953 under different soil Cd levels, especially in a lower soil Cd level. Total amount of low-molecular-weight organic acids (LMWOAs) and the concentrations of each LMWOAs (citric acid, tartaric acid, propionic acid and acetic acid) in the rhizosphere soil of Yan86103 were significantly lower than those of Laizhou953. The transportation of ~(109)Cd both from roots to shoots via xylem and from leaves to grains via phloem was significantly less in Yan86103 than in Laizhou953. Concentration of Cd-PCs in roots was found to be greatly lower in Yan86103 than that of in Laizhou953.
