A UML FRAMEWORK FOR WEB SERVICES-BASED CLINICAL DECISION SUPPORT

While studies suggest that clinical decision support systems (CDSSs) have a positive impact on reducing medical errors and aiding physician decision-making, current technical difficulties in integrating distributed heterogeneous data and linking clinical applications have limited the effectiveness of these systems. The main contribution of this work is a framework, modeled in UML, which uses the eXtended Markup Language (XML) as a means of transmitting data between real-time data repositories and employs Web services to offer ubiquitous clinical decision support in a distributed environment. The medical problem in question is providing CDSSs during the critical period of perinatal care.
