Location and quantification of the elements in order to make an ecological network between two SIC in the Venetian plain (N-E Italy)

In an area of the high Venetian plain, 2 SIC are present that are about 3 Kilometres one from the other; a wooden area is also present between them. An imaginary strip, 1000 m wide, joining these 3 areas, defines 2 rectangular surfaces, that share theminor side, represented by the wooden area. Inside these locations, all the elements that could be involved in the realization of an ecological network connecting the 3 areas were recorded and mapped. This operation pointed out that there were, on the average, 73 m ha"1 of hedges and 2358 m2ha" of permanent meadow. On the base of the cluster analysis performed on the botanical surveys made in 30 hedges, 5 clusters were obtained; these clusters were ascribable to 2 main categories, that were different for the presence or absence of Robinia pseudoacacia. When this last species was not present, Alnus glutinosa and Corylus avellana prevailed.
