摘要

The root principle derived from agreements at Rio de Janeiro in 1992, was to reduce the environmental impacts of human activities whilst obtaining an equitable quality of life through social and economic prosperity. Concern over declining global biodiversity required nations to seek measures to continue development alongside obtaining ecological and environmental gain. This paper introduces a new housing development at Upton, Northampton, UK, where: innovation, use of the latest technologies and landscape scale environmental, social and economic planning has set a stage to challenge conventional ideas in housing development. Best practice for urban design, energy efficiency, management of natural resources have been included. A Sustainable Urban Drainage System is being installed as part of the site's infrastructure and opportunities for wetland habitats have been anticipated.
