This paper describes the reconfiguration of the header and replacement of the control valves of the ETAP gas export system. Early in the design process it was recognised that the revised header configuration would not comply with the requirements of ISO 5167:2003 [1] without additional modifications. Consequently, three basic options were considered to remedy this situation: Option A: Increasing meter run straight lengths. Option B: Cutting into existing meter runs to install a flow conditioner Option C: Installing a flow conditioner which did not comply with ISO 5167 specifications The original design of the skid and the revised header are described. The merits of various modification options are considered and the results of a CFD-based assessment of selected options are given. The impact of this assessment are discussed along with considerations of cost saving, project timescales and health and safety issues. Finally conclusions are drawn.
