LIF is a powerful technique for the study of plants, crops and forest. The spectral and imaging techniques for quantifying plants growth have progressed rapidly during last two decades. These are also being used for quick determination of the plants response to the stress. Reckless use of insecticide in agriculture and other areas are emerging as a long term irreparable loss to the environment, which concern throughout the world. Majorities of these chemicals are beneficial when used judiciously. However, many of them contaminate the ecosystem and found in animal and plant products. When eating such food the residual compounds reach in the tissues of man and animal. These insecticides affect the immune system besides causing acute and chronic toxicity. Continuous use of the insecticides also degraded the land fertility. Monocrotophos is an organo-phosphorous insecticide, which find its main uses in cotton plants. It is also recommended for application against foliage pests of maize, sugarcane, vegetables and potatoes and has been found in a number of vegetation above the toxic level (Singh & Dhaliwal 1993). The present study deals with the impact of monocrotophos on the growth characteristic of wheat seedlings by measuring LIF spectra, fluorescence induction kinetics and pigment analysis from the leaves.
