A technique has been developed for the diesel engine faults diagnosis by using transient speed. By simulating and analyzing the characteristics of the dynamic model of transient speed, a simplified and practical diesel engine faults diagnosis model has been established based on the single-degree-of-freedom dynamic model. And the relation between the transient speed signal and the work of each cylinder is discovered. The experimental results demonstrate the practical and feasible of the faults diagnosis model, which exploits new thoughtway for detecting cylinder-to-cylinder non-uniformity and misfire.
