Over the last decade, demand in hydrotreated - including hydrocracked - high quality base oil has been growing rapidly. Unlike mature markets such as the USA and Europe, Asian base oil market has not been requiring high quality base oils that much - there are many symptoms, however, that this will change in the near future. The article includes how SK started its high quality base oils business, technically and commercially, its innovations way up to now, and SK's view on how the future high quality base oil market will face new challenges like gas-to-liquid (GTL) base oils.
