PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ether) are the most widely used as additive flame retardants which are added to a variety of commercial applications (e.g.in plastics,textiles,electronic circuitry and other materials) to prevent fires and have been an increasing interest as a new persistent organic pollution since Norén and Meironyté reported that the PBDE levels appeared to be increasing at an exponential rate in human breast milk from Sweden in 2000.
