In the majority of craniofacial anomalies, particularly non-syndromic craniosynostosis, operative treatment of deformity in infancy is preferred to delaying surgery to adolescence of adulthood.Nevertheless, despite the recognised benefits, surgery is not always performed in infancy. In some cases, this is because a diagnosis is not made at a young age and in others because of a parental refusal. On reaching adulthood, these patients may present to craniofacial surgeons requesting advice on the options for surgical management of their deformity. In most cases, the patients concerns relate to morphology. In essence, they present for information regarding aesthetic surgery, as their appearance causes them significant distress. Although the majority have no functional problem, in some, headaches or visual disturbance may be presenting features.
