In the present paper, the authors propose a new formula for expressing thermal comfort in the steady state in a sitting posture in a non-uniform thermal environment. The formula is applicable under conditions involving various types of clothing and with various air velocities. For the basic experiments, we created non-uniform thermal environments by heating one enclosing surface and chilling the opposite surface. We located a human subject or a thermal manikin between the surfaces and conducted experiments to determine whole-body thermal comfort, local skin temperature, and local dry heat loss at nearly steady states in sitting postures. Basedon the obtained data, we proposed an objective formula.
