LONG-TERM FIELD SURVEY ON THERMAL ADAPTATION IN OFFICE BUILDINGS IN JAPAN

Long-term field survey was conducted at six buildings in order to investigate how the occupants adapt to the indoor environment where installed mechanical cooling and heating systems as well as operable windows. More than 5000 of questionnaires and corresponding indoor temperatures were collected. Clothing adjustment was observed to be relating with outdoor temperature and indoor temperature as well as dress codes. The observed preferred temperature was close to the comfort temperature predicted from PMV. However, the neutral temperature varied from season to season, ifthe occupants had much opportunity to control the indoor climate.Thus, it is possible that the comfort range is affected by the opportunity to control the indoor climate.
