Simulation of Timber Fracture by the Extended Finite Element Method

摘要

A novel approach for fracture simulation of wooden structures is introduced. The so-called extended finite element methods allow the mechanical mapping of cracks independent of the underlying mesh. The formulation of crack initiation and propagation is therefore possible without the need to adjust the mesh. The description of wooden material, which necessitates a specific modelling, is incorporated by the use of an orthotropic material formulation aligned with the grains and an appropriate set of cracktip enrichment functions. Crack propagation is implemented by use of a variation of the maximum circumferential stress criterion. The new approach of the maximum load factor criterion is applied to a model of a kinked Glulam beam.
