Chamber-trials under highly controlled ambient conditions with three different ornamental plants showed just a limited filter capacity of plants for the volatile organic compounds toluene and 2-ethylhexanol. The uptake of pollutants tended to be higher under light conditions than under dark conditions. There seems to be no major correlation between filter capacity and the plant physiological parameters which are connected to CO_2-uptake, -release and transpiration.
