Information overload is considered one of the fundamental human-machine interaction problems today. This is also true for users in the production automation area. Machine users have to control the production process and the quality of the products. For example, they watch machine and product parameters at the machine user interface. The information is mostly conducted in a visual form. Though many visualization techniques exist, not all are applicable in the industrial environment. In this paper, criteria for the applicability of visualization techniques for machine users in the production automation area will be investigated.
