Effect of Column Diameter on Equilibrium Line Slope of a Corrugated Gauze and Sheet Structured Packing

The results of a theoretical study indicate a significant effect of column diameter and also pressure drop and capacity on the equilibrium line slope of corrugated sheet structured packing are presented. The evaluations were carried out with two kinds of corrugated structured packing, one developed in the Mexican National Institute of Nuclear Research and the other one is a similar packing, named Sulzer BX, using an absorption column that recovers H{sub}2S with methyl-diethanol-amine (MDA) at ambient conditions. One study case was evaluated: the minimum load gas wet raw flow is 867.06 m{sup}3/h, with 1.13% H{sub}2S. The evaluation was done applying a Two Film model which is based on the number of global mass transfer units, involving the separation efficiency as a function of the height of a global transfer unit. A comparison of the pressure drop, mass transfer coefficients and height of mass transfer unit on gas film and liquid film were done with respect to the equilibrium line slope and capacity. The results show a high influence of the estimated value from the slope equilibrium line. The Mellapak showed the best separation efficiency of the three packings and ININ packing showed higher separation efficiency than the Sulzer BX packing.
