The purpose of this study is to demonstrate inherent CO_2 separation, no NOx emission, high CO_2 selectivity, high CH_4 conversion, and no side reaction (carbon deposition and/or hydrogen generation) in a chemical-looping combustion system by continuous reduction and oxidation experiment in a 50kWth chemical-looping combustor. NiO/bentonite particle was used as a bed material and CH_4 and air were used as reacting gases for reduction and oxidation, respectively. A total operating time of more than 3.5 hour was accomplished. Pressure drop profiles in the system loop were maintained steadily throughout 3.5 hour run and solid circulation between an oxidizer and a reducer was smooth and stable. By analysis of gases in the exit stream from the system, we can conclude that inherent CO_2 separation and NOx-free combustion is possible in the chemical-looping combustion system.
