7.1 INTRODUCTION The deposits of deltas and estuaries that are strongly dominated, or influenced, by tidal processes remain relatively poorly known. Although there have been recent increases in our understanding of processes on modern tide-dominated deltas (Choi et al, 2004; Yang and Nio, 1989) and estuaries (Dalrymple and Zaitlin, 1994; Tanavsuu-Milkeviciene and Plink-Bjorklund, 2009), there is still a dearth of information on the deposits and stratigraphy of these systems (see Dalrymple, 1992; Dalrymple and Choi, 2007; Dalrymple et al., 1992; Jaeger and Nittrouer, 1995; Schrottke et al, 2006; Shanmugam et al, 2000; Tanavsuu-Milkeviciene and Plink-Bjorklund, 2009; Willis and Gabel, 2001; Willis et al, 1999; Zhang and Zhang, 2008).
